Guns, Cars, and Hookers
Posted @ 11:01am

Wifey bought me a PSP for my birthday. Possibly one of the best friggin gifts ever. I've been playing Grand Theft Auto non stop the past few days. It brings me a special kind of joy, having the freedom to walk around the city, steal someones car, kill a cop with a shotgun, and fornicate with a disease infested street walker, all to the tune of Bad To The Bone!

Ahh....Vice City is my Utopia!

Yet, while the game may not be real...the crabs I have gotten hookers, totally are!

The Evolution Of The Blog: From Caveman to Rich Man
Posted @ 9:45am

Over the 10 years that I've been writing my site, and surfing other blogs, I've seen a natural shift in the direction that many blogs have taken. When I first discovered these "blog" sites, the people running them really were pioneers of the era. They were like the DJs of the internet, back before others realized their voices could be heard as well, and the progression began.

The first blog site I ever visited was The Stile Project, a site dedicated to porno, sick demented humor, and some of the most disgusting, disturbing pictures anyone has ever seen. He spent his days in his mothers basement searching for the nastiest stuff that he could find to please the deranged minds of his fans. Stile started a few months before I did, and he became an immediate icon. So much, that now, while the Stile Project still exists...I wonder what actually ever became of Stile himself. He was one of the first who realized he could make money off of ads on his site. He became so huge that people copied his style, then ran, begging him for a link. You weren't shit in the blog world without Stile backing you up. Now, while the site still has the same content as before, theres a less of Stiles presence, and more of the ads, that by now, have probably made him a millionaire. He took a simple hobby...and turned it into his retirement.

There were other sites out there at this time too, that I took a strong liking to. Blogs like, We're All Idiots, ran by a young man named Justin. He was a much more tame version of Stile, but with his own uniqueness. There was also SuperUnleaded, a site dedicated to the nostalgics of cartoons, toys, and nerdy things in the past. It was a hilarious, very well written, and one of my personal favorites. Along with the 2 girls, local to me, Violet and Nicci, who spent their time bitching, and hunting down the coolest underground music. These girls were following Linkin Park a few years before they really went big.

These were the sites that motivated, and inspired me...and with the exception of Stile....none of them were making an effort to make money from this. They did it because it made them happy...and not many people were doing anything like it at the time.

Sadly, out of all of these, Stile is the only one still around.

I ended up taking a 5 year break from regularly surfing the web. I went through a point where things were changing for me personally. I was busy trying to find a new career, I was starting a new family, and on top of all that I was flat broke! When all those issues were resolved, bringing me to the "well off" point that I'm at now...I came back. I took my site, which itself had been huge, popular, and a place of much controversy, and brought it back from the dead. I went from thousands of visitors a day, to practically begging people to come look at it.

It was during all this time, that I saw the internet, and the now very popular blogospehere, was nothing like I had remembered it. It had grown, and evolved into what it is now. I was confused at first. All these new things like Technorati, Blog communities, SEO, RSS, Digg, pings, memes, link trains, they made feel way out of the loop. With all this, was an overwhelming flood of new blogs. New people, (some) new ideas, and around every corner was someone trying to explain to me how to get rich off my site.

Suddenly, everyone wants to make a quick buck through blogging. A new one pops up everyday, and so many people think that they have the answer to make you rich. I don't think people realize how hard it is to make a steady income doing this. I personally have never tried to make an income off my site, but I've seen so many people try and fail. It's definitely not something that happens overnight.

I'm not trying to knock any person for trying to make money off their site. If that's what you're doing, and it's paying your bills, I say, Make That Money! I look at it like NasCar, they put sponsors ads on their cars to pay for the regular maintenance that it takes to keep those cars running. I don't do it myself, because I don't pay a lot to make my site run. I do all my promoting on my own, and I write because I like entertaining people.

My site is my therapy!

At the same time, if you were to compare two blogs, trying to earn profit from their sites, I would look at it like 2 restaurants. They both have a unique style to them, and are both visually appealing...but the odds are, in the long run, one of those restaurants is going to kill the other one in sales.

That's why there are people that are making $150k a year, and people making $25 a year.

Is there a trick to it? I'm not rich off my site, so I can't answer that, but I think good timing, good ideas, and the right person looking at you, can make anyone rich, whether it's blogging, or selling vacuums.

However, even though a good 80% of the blogs out there now are trying to make money, there are still blogs out there that help me remember where we came from. Blogs that are just some person talking, venting, sharing ideas, opinions, maybe making some new friends, and loyal readers. To me, that's the root of it all.

Now that I've seen two different eras of blogging, it makes me wonder what's coming next.

Where is all of this going to take us?

Is this the boom?

The peak of it all?

Is the downfall around the corner?

I certainly hope not, because I love what I do, and I know there a millions of you out there that feel the same way.

And I guess if we all keep rolling up our sleeves, and digging in, maybe some of us will become rich, maybe famous...

And hopefully happy with what we are doing!

Chalk Up Another
Posted @ 9:35am

My mother started teaching me about advertising at a fairly young age. She broke it down as, for every 10 people you put your product, or idea in front of, usually only 1 of them is going to take the time to check it out. In all the years that I've been doing this site, I've learned this to be somewhat true. For every 10 visitors that I bring into this site, usually only 1 of them ever returns. Which is why whenever I get a new loyal reader, I do my best to make sure they keep coming back for more. Like this lady here:
