A few weeks ago, I'm sitting out back, enjoying the great weather, puffing away on my cigarette, when something catches my eye.

I see a little squirrel, scurrying across the roof of the apartment row across from me. I was a little curious how he go up there, since the trees are a good distance away from the roofing.

I think the squirrel was wondering the same thing.

He wandered to the edge of the roof, and peered over, then quickly darted back towards safety. He sat there for a moment...I think he knew he was kinda stuck. The closest tree was about 15 feet away from him. I don't know the exact length a normal squirrel can jump....but I think that was pushing it a bit. Even if he could make it, the branches were small and weak, a jump like that would send him to his demise.

Suddenly I found myself in suspense of what this little guy was gonna do.

In fact...I kinda wanted to see him jump.

I knew he couldn't make it....I think he did too....and I think we both knew he was going to try anyway!

Then I asked myself, how sick of a person am I?

I'm sitting here, hoping this harmless animal leaps off of a 2 story roof to his death!

Even now, while writting it, I'm kinda laughing....you know that'd be pretty sweet to watch.

yeah, I'm sure I'm gonna get a nasty comment about that remark

I stared, anxiously waiting, while he hopped back a few feet. He looked up at the sky...almost as if he was praying to whatever god like creature squirrels worship...

The nut god?

He began running....

I stood up....with a huge grin on my face. The kind you get when you're waking up to head in the morning!

He jumped....

I don't know how....but that son of a bitch barely grabbed on to one of those tiny branches, which began to droop as he hung, and then leaped off of it right as it looked like it was about to snap. A few more hops, and that guy was safely climbing down to the bottom of the tree.

I wasn't sure how to feel. Deep down I was kinda glad he survived....but, seriously, that would've been awesome to watch him fall!

I know it's fucked up

But it's totally true!

I put out my cigarette, and began to wander in the house. I gave that squirrel one last look, as he was now wandering through the parking lot.

He paused for a moment, and our eyes met. He stood up on his two hind legs, starring blankly at me,

And flipped me off!
